Description

This serving board is cut from mango wood and measures 43cm long, 23cm wide and 1.5cm thick, with a short handle at one end and a round hole through it. The pattern is what makes it: an embossed motif at the far end, with rings of petals, leaves and little circles spreading out from a central flower, running off the edges of the board as though it were part of a larger design. Across the rest of the surface the grain shows plainly in its natural tone, with the streaks you expect from mango, and because wood grain never repeats, no two boards are quite alike. At 0.72KG it lifts easily by the handle.

It is a board made for food: a fresh loaf, a wedge of cheese with crackers, cured meats and olives, or fruit to share. The length leaves room for bread alongside a couple of small bowls, and the handle makes it easy to pass along a dining table or carry out to a garden table on a warm evening. It suits a kitchen where the worktop is on show, a weekend brunch, a drinks evening with friends or a long lunch outdoors, and between meals it makes a simple base for a jar of herbs or a carafe on the counter. Hung by its handle from a hook, it keeps the pattern on view.

The board is made entirely of mango and finished with wax.
