Description

A jute doormat 60cm by 90cm and 2cm thick, woven by hand into a dense ribbed ground. A diamond lattice is picked out across the face in a paler yarn, running as one repeating grid corner to corner, and the edges are bound in the same jute. The pile is short and hard rather than soft underfoot.

It is made for indoor use only, so it goes inside a front or back door rather than out on a step. At 60cm by 90cm it takes the width of a doorway and a stride beyond it. It is 2cm thick, which is worth measuring against the clearance under the door it sits behind.

The mat is jute throughout, woven on a traditional Indian handloom. Jute is a rain fed crop that needs little fertiliser or pesticide, and it spins into a thread strong enough to take a floor. Because the weave and the pattern are set by hand, the diamonds are not identical across the face and no two mats are the same.

Frequently Asked

Can it go outside?

No. It is made for indoor use only, inside a front or a back door.

How big is it?

60cm by 90cm and 2cm thick. It weighs 1.6kg.

How do I clean a jute rug?

Lift a spill straight away by blotting it with a sponge or a cloth. Vacuum gently, and not with a rotating brush head, which will damage the fibres. Professional cleaning is an option.

Does it shed?

A little. Natural jute gives up some loose fibre, particularly when it is new.

Does the colour last?

Out of the sun, yes. Colours may fade where daylight falls on them directly.
