Description

A stoneware vase 22cm tall and 13cm across, with straight sides that step in to a short flared foot. The opening is 12cm wide, very nearly the full width of the body. The glaze is a reactive one and it has broken across the surface into a pale sage and cream ground with dark brown and olive pooling through it, heavier where the glaze has run and thinner over the shoulder. No two vases carry the same pattern.

At 22cm with a 12cm opening the vase takes long stems, branches or a dried arrangement rather than a tight posy, and the wide mouth lets stems splay rather than holding them upright. It stands on a sideboard, a shelf or a hearth. Beside the wider Uzuri planter the two glazes read as one surface across a room and pull apart close to.

The vase is stoneware, glazed by hand. The glaze reacts in the heat of the kiln, which is what creates the variation in tone and pattern, so no two pieces come out alike. The Uzuri is also made as a wider planter.
