Description

The Knightsbridge FPC6BB is a single-port CAT6a RJ45 network outlet behind a brushed brass flat plate with a 2.5mm projection from the wall. The outlet uses IDC (insulation displacement) terminals for terminating unshielded twisted-pair cable, supporting data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps over 100m at 500MHz bandwidth when used with certified CAT6a cabling.

Designed for residential and commercial Ethernet installations, the outlet fits a standard 35mm minimum back box depth and provides a shuttered RJ45 port that protects the contacts from dust when no cable is plugged in. The flat plate design minimises protrusion from the wall, making it suitable for hallways, home offices and media rooms where recessed or low-profile wiring accessories are preferred. The outlet remains backward-compatible with CAT5e and CAT6 patch leads.

The brushed brass finish is applied to a 201 stainless steel plate with a built-in gasket behind the faceplate to reduce light bleed around the edge. The 87.5mm square plate uses visible screw fixings at top and bottom rather than a screwless cover system, giving a traditional flush-mount appearance that pairs with other Knightsbridge flat plate accessories in the same finish. The IDC terminals accept solid-core cable gauges typical of CAT6a structured cabling, and an earth terminal is provided for grounded installations.

What cable type is required for CAT6a performance?

The outlet must be terminated with certified CAT6a unshielded twisted-pair cable to achieve the full 10Gbps at 500MHz specification. Using CAT5e or CAT6 cable will limit performance to the lower specification of that cable type, though the outlet remains physically compatible.

What back box depth is needed?

A minimum 35mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The outlet has a recessed depth of 30.4mm and a total depth of 32.9mm when the plate is fitted.

Is the plate screwed or screwless?

This is a flat plate with visible screw fixings at top and bottom. Knightsbridge also produces screwless variants of network outlets in other ranges if a hidden-fixing finish is preferred.

Can it be used with shielded cable?

The outlet is specified for unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable. For shielded CAT6a installations, a screened outlet with FTP or STP compatibility would be required.
