Description
Trudy is a stoneware vase made in the shape of a bird, with a small head and curving neck at one end and a raised tail at the other that forms the opening for the stems. It measures 19cm long, 7.5cm wide and 19cm tall, so it is as long as it is high, and its slim body needs very little depth. The green body is partly decorated by hand: painted dots scatter across it, a wing sweeps along each side in fine looping lines, the beak and eye are picked out on the head, and a ring of brushed marks circles the rim of the tail.
Because it is only 7.5cm wide, it suits the places where a rounder vase would crowd things: a narrow windowsill, a mantelpiece, a bookshelf or the end of a desk beside a stack of books. Put a few stems in the tail, a single bloom with a sprig of fern or greenery, and the bird seems to carry them on its back. It sits just as happily on its own as a small ornament, which makes it a good choice for a hallway console, a bedside table or a dressing table, and a cheerful present for anyone who likes painted ceramics and birds.
Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, and this vase is 100% stoneware; at 0.9KG it has a reassuring weight for its size. The decoration is partly done by hand, so the painted details carry the small variations of a brush rather than the flat sameness of a print. The surface has a glossy sheen that catches the light, and the bird stands on a neat, flat foot. For styling, keep the arrangement loose and a little taller than the bird's head so the stems read as tail feathers, and pair it with plain books or a linen runner so the painted detail has room to show.

Frequently Asked
What material is used for the Trudy vase?
It is made of 100% stoneware and is partly decorated by hand, with a glossy surface and painted details on the green body.
How big is the vase?
It measures 19cm long, 7.5cm wide and 19cm tall, and weighs 0.9KG, so it fits comfortably on a narrow shelf or windowsill.
Where do the flowers go?
The opening sits at the top of the raised tail, so the stems rise from the bird's back while its head stays clear.
Is the decoration done by hand?
The decoration is partly done by hand, which gives the dots, wing lines and brushed marks the small irregularities of a brush rather than a print.
Can it be used without flowers?
Yes. The bird shape and painted detail make it a cheerful ornament on its own, on a shelf, mantelpiece, desk or bedside table.
What do I receive?
You receive one bird-shaped stoneware vase on its own. The styling props shown are not included.
