Description

This small stoneware bowl takes the shape of a bird, with its head raised at one end, its broad tail lifted at the other and a deep curve between them that gives it a U-shaped outline. It measures 12.5cm long, 14cm wide and 1cm tall, so it is a shallow trinket bowl, small enough for a narrow windowsill or shelf. The body is white, and painted details bring the bird to life: a line traced around the rim, a wing of curved stripes, bold feathers across the tail, a tiny beak and a scatter of small marks at the throat.

We like it best on a dressing table or bedside table, where it gathers rings, earrings and a watch at the end of the day. It works just as well on a desk for paper clips, buttons and a USB stick, or in a hallway as the place where spare keys always land. On a bathroom shelf it keeps hair grips and studs together. Being so shallow, it slips easily onto a stack of books or inside a larger tray alongside other small pieces.
