Description

Torch is a pendant in black and antique brass. A slim black cylinder hung from a black flex, capped at the top by a short polished brass collar and finished at the bottom by a small black half-dome that flares out from the tube. The dome is left open underneath, so the light leaves as a tight pool directly below. The cylinder is a plain matt black tube with no seams or fixings along its length, and the brass collar is the one warm note on the fitting. The proportions are tall and narrow, with the dome only a little wider than the tube. It hangs like a drawn line.

It suits a table, an island or a hallway, hung low enough to be looked at rather than into. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.

The holder is GU10 and takes up to 7W. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

A GU10 lamp up to 7W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the shade. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block.

Does it need an earth?

No. It is class II, double insulated, so it is wired live and neutral only.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
