The Toothill floor lamp is a slim black steel column standing 153.5cm tall, topped by a cylinder of smoked glass that fades from clear at the top to smoke around the bulb. The shade is 10.5cm in diameter and the round base is 19.5cm in diameter, so the whole lamp needs very little floor space. It takes a single E27 bulb, which is not included, leaving you free to pick the brightness and colour of light you prefer. Its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

Because the footprint is so small, it fits the narrow gap beside a sofa, an armchair or a bookcase, where a wider lamp would crowd the room. It suits a living room, a bedroom corner or a reading spot, and the black steel sits comfortably with exposed brick, dark wood or a simple modern scheme. The smoked glass softens the look of the bulb it holds, so a decorative bulb becomes part of the design, and the clear top keeps the shade from looking heavy.
