Description
The Thenkara floor lamp is the tall version of the desk one and works the same way. A solid rectangular block sits flat on the floor, a slim column rises from it, and a long arm crosses that column at a large knurled pivot, running back past the joint as its own counterweight. At the front a cylindrical shade with a domed top turns on a second joint. Every part is brass, aged and mottled with the tool marks left in, and a rust braided flex runs from the shade back along the arm. It stands 150cm and the arm reaches 67cm.
A reach of 67cm is what separates this from a lamp that stands beside a chair: the block can sit behind a sofa or at the end of one and the shade still arrives over a lap. The arm swings on the column and the head turns through a full circle on its own joint, so the light goes onto a page, a chair or a wall. The shade is closed at the top and open at the mouth, so almost nothing spills upward. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W and the flex runs 3.5m.
Every component is brass, the adjustable fittings and the screws included, and the lamp is cast and then shaped by hand rather than plated, so the colour runs right through and each one darkens differently where it is handled. At 6.6kg the block holds the arm out at full reach. The Thenkara range also holds a desk lamp on the same counterweighted arm. Bulbs are not included.

Frequently Asked
How far does the arm reach?
67cm from the column. That is enough to stand the base behind a sofa and still put the light over someone sitting on it.
Does the head move as well as the arm?
Both. The arm swings on the column and the head turns through a full circle on its own joint.
Does it come with a shade?
Yes. The brass shade is part of the lamp, so it needs only a bulb.
Will the brass stay this colour?
No. It is solid brass throughout rather than plated, so it darkens where hands reach it and keeps its tone where they do not.
How do I clean it?
Unplug it and let the shade cool, then a soft dry cloth. Abrasives and harsh chemicals will cut through the aged finish.
