Description

A round earthenware serving bowl, 28.5cm across and 7.5cm tall, with a heavy rolled rim and a wall that swells out and turns back in under it. The inside is glazed a flat khaki green that carries over the rim and down a little way outside. Below that the outside is cream, painted by hand with broad brown and tan marks that run round the bowl in a loose band, each one left with the edge the brush gave it.

This is a low, wide bowl rather than a deep one, and the design is for salads, shared dishes and fruit. The shallow profile holds the contents close to the rim, so a pair of servers reaches everything without digging into a well. The green inside reads as the colour of the bowl and the painted outside reads as the pattern.

The bowl is earthenware and is food safe. Each one is painted by hand, so the width, the number and the placing of the marks differ from bowl to bowl, and the tone of the green shifts a little across the glaze. The Terra range runs to a footed bowl and a jug in the same khaki green.

Frequently Asked

How big is the bowl?

28.5cm across and 7.5cm tall. It weighs 1.322kg.

Is it food safe?

Yes.

Is every bowl painted the same?

No. The markings are brushed on by hand, so no two bowls carry them in quite the same places.

How should it be washed?

After every use, so nothing is left to stain the glaze. Use a mild detergent and do not leave it to soak.

What else is in the range?

A footed bowl and a jug, both in the same khaki green.
