Description

The Terra is an earthenware bowl on a flared pedestal foot, 19.5cm across and 13.5cm high. The glaze is a pale khaki ground worked over with broad brushstrokes in warm brown, laid on in blocks and sweeps that run down the outside of the bowl and carry on across the foot. The inside is left almost plain, with a thin dark line following the rim.

At 19.5cm across and 13.5cm high the bowl stands up off a table rather than sitting flat on it, so what is in it reads from across a room. It is food safe, so it serves as well as it displays, and it takes seasonal fruit, salads and shared dishes. The brushwork is heaviest on the outside of the bowl, which is the part that stays visible once it is full.

The bowl is earthenware. Each one is painted by hand, the markings brushed on a piece at a time, so the pattern and the weight of the brown differ from bowl to bowl. The colour is recorded as khaki green, which is the ground the brushwork sits on rather than the brown that covers most of it. The Terra range also runs to a serving bowl and a jug in the same khaki green.

Frequently Asked

How big is the bowl?

19.5cm across and 13.5cm high.

Is it food safe?

Yes.

Is the pattern the same on every bowl?

No. The markings are brushed on by hand a piece at a time, so the pattern and the depth of the brown vary.

What is it made from?

Earthenware.

How do I look after it?

Wash it after every use so it does not stain, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it carefully, as earthenware chips.
