Description

The Tembesi is a planter raised in aluminium and finished in antique brass, 18cm tall and 23cm across. The body is a deep round bowl that draws in towards the base and finishes at the top in a rolled rim standing slightly proud of the wall. The outside is worked all over in close horizontal bands of small punched squares, each with a dot at its centre, while the inside is left plain and bright.

It holds 5400ml, which suits a house plant, a cactus or a group of succulents, and at 23cm across it sits on a shelf, a windowsill or a desk without taking the surface over. It is rated for outdoor use, so it can stand on a step or a garden table as readily as indoors. There is no drainage hole in the base, so the plant goes into an inner pot that lifts out for watering.

The planter is aluminium under a warm brass finish, and the etching is done by hand, so the bands sit a little differently on every pot and the marks bite deeper in some rows than others. Tembesi runs to three sizes in this finish: this one at 18cm tall and 23cm across, then 25cm, then 32cm. Supplied without an inner pot.
