Description

The Knightsbridge CL73BC is a BT master telephone socket with an integrated surge arrestor and R/C filter, housed behind a brushed chrome rounded-edge faceplate. The master socket acts as the primary connection point for the incoming BT line, with screw terminals for wiring and a single front-facing RJ11 outlet for connecting telephone handsets or extension wiring.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the socket fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses a rounded-edge plate with a built-in gasket that sits flush against the wall surface. The surge arrestor protects connected equipment from voltage spikes on the telephone line, while the R/C filter reduces interference from electrical noise on the circuit.

The brushed chrome finish is applied to 304 stainless steel, giving a mid-tone metallic surface that resists corrosion and pairs with both modern and traditional interiors. What is a master socket and why is it needed?

A master socket is the first connection point on the internal telephone wiring where the incoming BT line enters the building. It contains a surge arrestor and filter to protect equipment and improve line quality. All extension sockets are wired from the master socket.

Can this be used as a secondary socket?

No. This is a master socket with surge protection and filtering components designed for the primary BT line connection. For secondary or extension sockets, use a standard telephone outlet without the master socket components.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The plate projects 7.5mm from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 29.6mm from the wall surface to the back of the mounting box.

Is the plate screw-fixed or screwless?

This is a screw-fixed plate with visible fixings. The rounded-edge design includes a built-in gasket to sit flush against the wall, but the plate itself is secured with screws rather than a clip-on screwless system.
