Description

Tazia is a tall woven basket in the shape of a penguin, and its head is the lid. It is made from 100% bankuan grass and stands 69cm tall and 37cm across, so it is a floor piece in its own right rather than a basket for a shelf. Black weave runs down the back and sweeps round the front as a curving wing, while the head carries a pointed woven beak and a small eye. Lift off the head and the body becomes an open, round basket with a wide mouth, deep enough for armfuls of soft toys.

It is made for a children's room, a nursery or a playroom, where toys gather faster than anyone can sort them. The lid keeps the jumble out of sight at the end of the day, and the penguin itself becomes one of the characters in the room, with a beak that gives it a cheerful lean. Being round, it fits neatly beside a bed, next to a reading chair or alongside a small table and stool. At 1.5KG it moves easily from the bedroom to the playroom when the toys travel too. It works beyond the nursery as well: dressing-up clothes, spare blankets and soft cushions all suit it.

The basket is woven throughout from bankuan grass, with a bound rim at the top of the body and a matching rim around the lid. A slim wire frame runs along the lower edge of the lid, underneath the weave. Across the front the plain grass shows the open, chunky weave against the black back and wing. For a calm, tidy playroom, set it on a soft rug beside a low bookcase and turn the beak towards the room, so the penguin faces the door.

Frequently Asked

What material is the penguin basket?

It is woven from 100% bankuan grass, with black weave forming the penguin's back and wing and the plain grass showing across the front.

How big is the Tazia basket?

It stands 69cm tall and measures 37cm across, so it sits on the floor as a tall piece rather than on a shelf. It weighs 1.5KG.

Does the lid come off completely?

Yes. The penguin's head is a separate lid that lifts clear of the body, leaving a round, open basket with a wide mouth for filling.

What can I keep in it?

It is made as kids storage, so teddies, soft toys and dolls suit it well, and dressing-up clothes or spare blankets work just as nicely.

Which colour is it?

It is listed as black. Black weave covers the back of the penguin and forms its curving wing, while the front shows the plain woven grass.
