Description

These are four stoneware dinner plates, each 27cm across and 2.5cm tall, which is a true dinner plate size with room for a main course and its sides. The glaze is multicoloured. It is deepest at the outer rim and graduates through a series of fine rings into a broad, glossy centre, so every plate frames the food it holds with a band of colour. Stoneware is a dense clay fired at high temperature, which makes it a sturdy, practical choice for plates that see daily use.

With four in the set, they lay a table for a family of four, or for two with a spare pair ready when guests arrive. They suit weekday dinners at the kitchen table as well as a slow Sunday lunch or supper with friends in the dining room. The wide, flat centre gives pasta, roast vegetables or a piece of fish plenty of space, and the coloured rim sets the meal off without crowding it. Because they go in the oven, you can warm them before serving a hot dish, and because they go in the microwave, leftovers can be reheated straight on the plate.

Each plate is stoneware throughout, finished in a spray glaze that carries the colour softly from rim to centre rather than in hard stripes.
