Tanu Stoneware Vase 12cm - Green

This green stoneware vase is built from two uprights rising out of one stem, one taller than the other, so the whole piece reads like a letter U lifted on a footed base. Rounded knobs stand proud on either side of both uprights, and each upright ends in its own opening, which gives you two places for stems at two different heights. It is stoneware throughout, a dense, hard-fired clay, and at 1.69KG it has real heft in the hand. The glaze is a glossy green with a gentle mottle across the surface that catches the light.

Because the shape does so much of the work, it needs very little in it. A single fern frond or a few dried grasses in the taller opening, with the shorter one left empty or given a small sprig of its own, is plenty. It suits a sideboard, a mantelpiece, a console table in the hall or a deep bookshelf: anywhere the knobbly outline can be seen from the side. It also works on its own as an object, and it sits happily among other ceramics on an open shelf, where the green can play against white walls, pale wood or stone.

The finish is a reactive glaze. Reactive glazes shift in tone as they fire, pooling darker in some places and lighter in others, so no two pieces come out quite alike and yours will have its own character. It is not dishwasher safe, so keep it out of the dishwasher and clean it gently by hand. The styling props shown are not included. For styling, give it a little space on either side and keep whatever goes in it loose: one arching stem from the tall opening echoes the curve between the uprights and leaves the rounded details to do the talking.
