Description

The Talna is a bell shaped as a Christmas tree: a tall smooth cone, 36cm high and 11cm across at the mouth, standing on its own flared rim with a five pointed star mounted on a short stem at the apex. It is cut from iron and finished with an antique brass patina, and the surface is mottled rather than even, with darker pitting showing through the gold where the patina has been rubbed back.

At 36cm it is the taller of the two Talna bells, and it stands on a mantelpiece, a shelf or a table rather than hanging from a branch. It needs only an 11cm circle of surface, so it sits among other things rather than claiming a space of its own, while the height carries the star above the candlesticks and smaller decorations around it. It is made for indoor use.

Every bell is hand cut from iron and finished by hand, so the depth of the patina and the pattern of the wear differ from one to the next. It rings, and the chime is gentle rather than sharp. The Talna bell is also made in a smaller size, 24.5cm tall.
