Soria Mango Wood Lazy Susan - Natural

A turning serving board of mango wood, 52cm across and 3.8cm deep. The face is left plain so the grain runs in wide bands across it, and the rim carries a band of carved etching. At just under 3kg it is heavy enough to sit still while it is being loaded.

Fifty-two centimetres is most of the width of a small table, and the turn is what earns it: everyone reaches everything without the board being passed round. It takes cheese, bread and a knife, and suits the middle of a long table. It is food safe, so the food goes straight onto the wood.

The wood is mango, a by-product of mango farming. The trees are grown for fruit and harvested for years, and only once they stop bearing are they cut, which gives the growers a second income from what would be waste. Each board is turned and carved by hand, so the etching and the grain differ from piece to piece. The Soria range also holds chopping boards and a toast rack.

How should I wash it?

In warm soapy water, rinsed and dried straight away. An edible oil such as olive or walnut rubbed into the surface nourishes the wood, and will darken the tone.
