Description

This is a low, relaxed lounge chair with a seat and back of open woven rattan, raised on slim iron legs. The weave is loose and irregular, so light passes through the back and the natural tone of the cane shows in every strand. The back rises in a wing shape whose sides curve gently forward, and the seat has a softly rounded front edge. It is 69cm long, 59.5cm wide and 81.5cm tall, with a seat 40cm high and 40cm deep.

A seat 40cm from the floor gives a low, laid-back position, better suited to reading and conversation than to working at a desk. In a living room it makes an extra seat beside a sofa; in a bedroom it gives you somewhere to sit and read, or to lay out tomorrow's clothes. The open weave keeps it visually light, so it suits smaller rooms and the corner of a room without crowding the space, and at 7.8KG it is easy to carry from one room to another when guests arrive. It takes a maximum load of 125KG.

The seat and back are woven rattan, wrapped neatly around its edges, and the four iron legs are joined beneath the seat by a crossed brace, each ending in a small round foot. Rattan is a natural cane, and its tone varies slightly from strand to strand, which is part of what we love about it. To style it, we would fold a soft throw over the seat or add a cushion, and set it beside light wood and plain walls so the woven texture can take the lead.
