Description

The Skeletal Mantel Clock is a 44cm-tall rectangular timepiece built around an exposed clock mechanism housed behind a glass front, set within a polished stainless steel frame. The frame itself is open-worked, with Roman numerals cut through the metal at the hour positions, allowing a view through to the wall behind. A pair of black hands moves across the cream dial face, which carries the McLaughlin & Scott branding and ESTD 1972 mark.

Designed for mantels, console tables and shelving units where there's space for a freestanding clock, the piece sits on a stepped black wooden plinth base that provides stability and raises the mechanism to a more visible height. The 30cm width and 10cm depth mean it suits narrow ledges and shelf depths common in UK homes. The exposed mechanism behind the glass gives the clock a technical, almost mechanical aesthetic that works in industrial, contemporary and mid-century interiors.

The polished stainless steel finish on the frame reflects ambient light without being mirror-bright, and the open skeleton structure reduces visual mass compared to a solid-faced clock of the same dimensions. The clock runs on a single AA battery (not included), accessed from the rear panel. At 2.4kg the combination of steel frame and wooden base gives enough weight to sit securely without anchoring.

Frequently Asked

What battery does it take?

The clock runs on a single AA battery, accessed from a panel on the rear. Batteries are not included with the clock.

How deep does the mantel or shelf need to be?

The clock is 10cm deep front-to-back when standing upright on its base. A shelf depth of 12-15cm provides comfortable clearance without the clock sitting too close to the wall.

Can the glass front be removed for cleaning?

The glass front is fixed within the steel frame and is not designed to be removed by the user. Clean the glass externally with a microfibre cloth and glass cleaner applied to the cloth, not sprayed directly onto the clock.

Is the mechanism visible from all angles?

The mechanism is visible through the glass front only. The rear of the clock is a solid metal back panel with the battery compartment. The skeleton frame around the edges provides a see-through effect to the wall behind, but the mechanism itself is only viewable from the front.
