Description

The Sitara is a hexagonal jewellery box, 20cm across and 17.5cm from front to back, standing 5cm high. Six clear glass panels make up the sides, each set into a slim iron frame finished in antique brass and soldered at every join. The lid is a shallow hexagonal pyramid of six triangular panels meeting at a point in the middle, hinged along the back edge, with a half round brass tab at the front to lift it by.

It is transparent on every side, so what goes into it stays on show rather than shut away. It takes rings, a fine chain and a bangle, and they stay readable through the glass with the lid down. At 5cm high it holds flat things well, chains, studs, rings and a bangle, rather than anything that stands up, and it takes up little of a dressing table or a shelf.

The frame is iron and the panels are glass. Every hexagon is shaped by hand and the panels are cut and fitted one at a time, so the joins and the solder lines fall a little differently on each box. The Sitara is made in this small size and in a large one, 25.5cm across and 6.5cm high.
