Description

A hexagonal jewellery box, 25.5cm across and 22cm from front to back, standing 6.5cm tall. Six glass panels make the sides, a seventh makes the flat hexagonal lid and the base is glass as well, all of it held in a brass framed cage. The lid is hinged along one back edge and lifts on a half round brass tab at the front. Inside, brass bars run from the centre out to each of the six corners and divide the floor into six triangular compartments.

At 25.5cm across it is a dressing table or shelf piece rather than one for a drawer, and at 6.5cm tall it is low enough to look down into from standing. Everything in it shows through the glass without the lid being lifted. The compartments are wedges, wider at the wall than at the centre, so bangles and longer chains go to the outside and rings sit anywhere. The small Sitara stacks on the large one, which is how the two sit together.

The frame is iron under an antique brass finish and the panels are clear glass. The frame is bent and soldered by hand into the hexagon and the glass is cut and fitted into it afterwards, so the solder lines and the depth of the finish differ from box to box. Sitara is made in this large size and in a small one at 20 by 17.5cm.
