Description
The Knightsbridge SN1300 is a single-gang 16mm surface pattress box made from white thermoset resin with an integrated earth terminal. It provides a mounting platform for switches, sockets and other wiring accessories where flush mounting into the wall is not possible or practical, such as on solid walls, tiled surfaces, or temporary installations.
Designed primarily for use with Knightsbridge's Square Edge (SN) series of wiring accessories, the box also accepts standard single-gang faceplates from other ranges. The 16mm depth allows for adequate cable containment behind typical 13A sockets and light switches while keeping the overall wall projection to a minimum. The white finish blends with white faceplates and painted walls in residential, commercial and light industrial settings.
The thermoset resin construction resists impact and heat better than standard thermoplastic boxes, and the anti-microbial coating has been third-party tested to ISO 22196:2011 standard, making this box suitable for healthcare, hospitality and food-preparation environments where surface hygiene is a concern. The integrated earth terminal accepts standard earth conductors without needing a separate terminal block. The box measures 86mm square with a 21mm total depth including the rear fixing lugs.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between a pattress box and a back box?
A pattress box is a surface-mounted enclosure that sits on top of the wall, whereas a back box (also called a flush box) is recessed into the wall. Pattress boxes are used where cutting into the wall is not possible, such as on solid masonry, tiled surfaces, or in temporary installations.
Is this box compatible with other brands of faceplates?
Yes. The 86mm square footprint and standard fixing centres mean this box accepts most single-gang UK faceplates, not just Knightsbridge's Square Edge series. However, the square edge profile is designed to align flush with the SN series for the cleanest finish.
What does the anti-microbial coating do?
The coating inhibits bacterial growth on the surface of the box, tested to ISO 22196:2011. This makes the box suitable for healthcare, hospitality and food-preparation environments where surface hygiene is a regulatory or practical concern.
How is the box fixed to the wall?
The rear of the box has fixing lugs with screw holes for wall mounting. Standard wood screws are used for timber surfaces, wall plugs and screws for masonry. The box should be fixed securely before the faceplate is installed.
