Description
This is a set of two round stoneware plates for the Christmas table, each 16cm across and 3cm tall. Both carry a ring of little horses trotting around the rim, each horse picked out with a chain of tiny loops, inside a scalloped border and around a centre circle. One plate has small hearts between the horses and a single heart in the middle; the other has small stars, with one star at its centre. The decoration is multicoloured on a glazed ground, and the two plates are easy to tell apart, which is half their charm.
At 16cm across, these are side plate size rather than dinner plates: right for a slice of Christmas cake, a couple of mince pies, biscuits with the afternoon tea, or a starter of smoked salmon on toast. At 3cm tall they are a plate, not a bowl, so they suit dry and lightly dressed food. Put one at each of two places for a breakfast on Christmas morning, use them as side plates beside your dinner service, or bring them out with the cheese board when the family settles in for the evening. With hearts on one and stars on the other, each guest can claim their own.
The plates are 100% stoneware with a glaze finish. They go in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so you can warm mince pies on them, carry them straight to the table and wash them up without fuss. Stoneware holds heat well. Because the pattern sits around the rim and the centre is mostly plain, food stays the focus and the horses frame it. The styling props shown are not included. For styling, lay them on a plain linen cloth so the pattern has room, or stack the pair on the sideboard with the star plate on top, ready for pudding.

Frequently Asked
What size are these plates?
Each plate is 16cm across and 3cm tall, which makes it a side plate or dessert plate size rather than a dinner plate.
Can the plates go in the dishwasher?
Yes. The plates go in the dishwasher, and they can also go in the microwave and the oven, so warming food and washing up are both simple.
What are the plates made of?
They are 100% stoneware with a glaze finish. Stoneware is a dense ceramic that holds heat well at the table.
How many plates do I get, and are they the same?
You get two plates. Both have the ring of horses around the rim; one has small hearts between the horses and the other has small stars.
What can I serve on them?
At 16cm across they suit a slice of Christmas cake, mince pies, biscuits, cheese or a small starter, and they work well as side plates at dinner.
