Description

This is a pair of stoneware Christmas mugs, each holding 300ml and measuring 9.5cm across and 8cm tall. A band of stylised horses walks around each one, with a scalloped border running just beneath the rim. The two are not identical: on one mug small stars sit between the horses, on the other small hearts. Each handle is glazed to match its own horses, while the inside of each mug takes the colour of the other mug's horses, so the pair reads as a matched couple. The multicoloured decoration is painted by hand.

At 300ml these are proper mugs rather than small cups, with room for a full tea, a milky coffee or a hot chocolate with space left for cream. We picture them coming out from the first week of December: on the breakfast table on Christmas morning, beside the tree with a mince pie, or handed to a guest by the fire after a cold walk.
