Description
Four little horses, joined at the middle and each carrying a candle cup on its back, make up this Advent candle holder. They are made of polyresin and iron, finished in red and hand-painted with folk-style decoration: harness lines across the face, rows of rings along the body and a dotted collar at the neck. The surface has a fine, textured grain that gives the red a soft, matt depth. At 23cm long, 23cm wide and 13cm tall it is compact enough for a narrow shelf, and at 0.3KG it is light to lift and move.
Four candle cups match the Advent count: one candle is lit on each of the four Sundays before Christmas, until all four burn together. That makes it a natural centre for the dining table through December, and because the horses face different ways it looks right from every seat. It sits just as well on a mantelpiece among greenery, on a sideboard, or on a hall console that the family passes each evening. It suits anyone who keeps the Advent candle tradition, and anyone who simply likes a hand-painted red piece to bring out each Christmas.
The decoration is painted by hand, and hand-painted work always varies a little from one piece to the next, so the lines and rings on yours will carry their own small differences. Polyresin takes fine modelled detail well, which is why the horses keep crisp heads and legs at this small size. Being light, it is easy to pack away in January and bring out again at the start of Advent. The candles and other styling props shown are not included. For styling, choose plain candles in a single shade so the painted horses stay the focus, then add a sprig of pine or a few baubles around the base to finish a December table.

Frequently Asked
What is the Advent candle holder made of?
It is made of polyresin and iron, finished in red with decoration painted by hand, and it weighs 0.3KG.
How big is it?
It is 23cm long, 23cm wide and 13cm tall, so it fits the centre of a dining table, a mantelpiece or a sideboard without crowding it.
How many candles does it hold?
It holds four candles, one in the cup on each horse's back, which matches the four Sundays of Advent before Christmas.
Are the candles included?
No. The candle holder comes on its own; the candles and other styling props shown are not included, so you will need four candles of your own.
Is the decoration really painted by hand?
Yes. The finish is hand-painted, so the rings, lines and dotted collars vary a little from one piece to the next and yours will be its own.
Can I use it outside the Advent Sundays?
Yes. With all four candles in place it works as a festive centrepiece for any December dinner or Christmas gathering, not only on the Advent Sundays.
