Description

A small table lantern, 12cm tall on a 6cm square base, built as an iron frame with a clear glass pane on each of the four sides. One side is hinged as a door and shuts on a small wire catch. The top is a flat plate carrying an open square chimney with a looped wire handle across it, and the base is a plain metal tray standing on four small feet. The iron is black, and the solder shows along every corner joint.

It is sized for a single tealight, and the 6cm base takes one. At 12cm the flame sits low inside the glass and the open chimney lets the heat out of the top. Two of them stand side by side on a table, and once lit the plain glass throws the light straight out rather than softening it. It is for indoor use.

The lantern is iron and glass. The metal is soldered round the glass with traditional tools, so weld marks sit on the joins of every piece and are left standing rather than ground back. A candle is not included. The Sia mini table lantern is also made in a large size, and the Sia lantern is made in three sizes in antique black.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft dry cloth so dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. To take wax off, use warm water and a mild dish soap, dry it straight away and do not let it soak. Stand the candle securely and keep the flame off the glass. It gets hot in use, so keep it out of reach of children, let it cool fully before handling it and never leave a burning candle unattended.
