Description

The Shoal is a 481mm diameter crystal chandelier with four E27 bulb positions arranged inside a cylindrical drum shade built from horizontal crystal bars. The crystal bars wrap around a polished nickel structural frame in overlapping rows, creating gaps that allow light to escape whilst the crystal refracts and multiplies the illumination across the ceiling and surrounding walls. The fixture hangs on a height-adjustable rod and cable from a polished nickel canopy.

Designed for dining rooms, sitting rooms and entrance halls with ceiling heights above 2.6m, the Shoal provides both direct downlight through the open base and decorative prismatic patterns from the crystal surround. The 1413mm maximum drop allows positioning between 700-900mm above a dining table in rooms with standard 2.4-2.7m ceilings, or lower in rooms with higher ceilings. The drop is set during installation by cutting the rod to length before final wiring.

Each horizontal crystal bar is faceted to catch and split light into multiple directions, giving the chandelier a shifting appearance as you move around the room. The polished nickel frame provides structural support and reflects additional light back through the crystals. The cylindrical profile measures 481mm wide and 323mm tall (excluding suspension), making it suitable for tables 1.2-1.8m in length or circular tables seating four to six. The chandelier takes four E27 bulbs up to 60W each (sold separately), allowing a total of 240W incandescent equivalent or typically 24-40W LED for a warm, bright output.

What bulbs does it take?

The Shoal takes four E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for dining and living spaces.

Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?

No. The drop is adjusted during installation by cutting the suspension rod to the desired length before final wiring. Once installed, the height is fixed. Measure your ceiling height and table position carefully before fitting.

What ceiling height is required?

For positioning above a dining table, a ceiling height of 2.6m or above is recommended to allow 700-900mm clearance between the table surface and the base of the chandelier. Lower ceilings can accommodate the Shoal if the suspension is shortened to the minimum 439mm drop.

How is the crystal cleaned?

Switch off at the mains and allow the bulbs to cool fully. Wipe each crystal bar with a dry microfibre cloth. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the fittings and do not use chemical sprays or polishes near the nickel frame.
