Description
A cast candlestick 27.5cm tall, standing on a wide flared foot that rises into a stem of three faceted lozenge forms, each pinched to a narrow waist before the next begins, and finishing in a plain open cup. The casting leaves the metal rough: the facets are uneven, the edges are soft rather than sharp, and seams and small dents run through the surface where the metal met the mould.
At 27.5cm this is the largest of the three Shani sizes, and all three stand together along a console table, each holding a dinner candle. It is made for a dining table or a sideboard. The foot is 6cm across, so the candlestick takes up very little surface for its height and a row of them can stand close together.
The candlestick is iron, cast in a sand mould. The mould is built up from sand, the metal is heated until it runs, poured in, and the cast piece taken out once it has cooled. Sand holds a shape loosely, which is why the surface comes out rough and the patination falls differently across every piece, and the antique brass finish goes on afterwards. The range runs to three sizes and the candle is not included.

Frequently Asked
What candle does it take?
A dinner candle. The top is an open cup rather than a spike, so the candle stands in it.
How tall is it?
27.5cm, on a foot 6cm across. It is the largest of the three Shani sizes.
Why is the surface uneven?
It is sand cast. The mould is made from sand, which holds a shape loosely, so every piece comes out with its own rough surface and its own patination.
How do I look after it?
Wash it with a mild dish soap and warm water after each use so that wax does not build up, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from the finish.
Does it get hot in use?
Yes. Stand the candle securely, keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has fully cooled before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
