Description

This small stoneware espresso cup is 5cm across and 5cm tall and holds 50ml. That is a true espresso measure, sized for a short shot of coffee rather than a long one, so it suits a home espresso machine or a stovetop pot far better than a cafetière. Each cup is decorated by hand with brushed blue arches that nest inside one another around the body, and a stripe of the same blue runs along the loop handle. Because the decoration is done by hand, no two cups are quite alike, and the brushwork on yours will differ a little from the next.

It belongs beside the coffee machine, on the breakfast table, or on a tray when friends stay for coffee after dinner. The body is a little wider at the base than at the rim, which gives it a settled footing on a counter, and at 0.088KG it is light enough to pass round a table of guests. It is also a neat size for holding a boiled egg at breakfast. The loop handle is open enough to hang the cup from an S-hook on a kitchen rail, which keeps a few cups within reach and frees up cupboard space.

The cup is made of 100% stoneware. Stoneware is dense and holds heat well, which counts for a lot in a cup this small. It goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so everyday washing needs no special care, and the empty cup can be warmed in the oven before you pour the coffee.
