Description

The Shama bowl is a small stoneware bowl, 12cm across and 7.5cm tall, holding 335ml. Its outside is covered in loose blue brushwork, broken by bold curved lines that rise in concentric arches from the foot towards the rim, so the pattern changes as you turn the bowl in your hands. Each one is hand decorated, which makes every piece unique: the brushstrokes and the spacing of the arches vary a little from bowl to bowl. The inside is left plain, so whatever you serve sits against a calm background.

At 335ml it is a good size for a breakfast portion of cereal, porridge or yoghurt with fruit, and just as useful in the evening for a side of rice, a salad, dips for the table or a dessert. Because it goes in the microwave, it suits warming leftovers or a small portion of soup at lunchtime.
