Description

A linen basket, 50cm wide, in grey. At 50cm wide it is a little narrower than a standard interior door. The useful positions are the ones a cupboard cannot reach: beside a fireplace for logs, at the end of a sofa for throws, on a landing for the things that live between floors.

Cool tones settle beside grey, blue and black without any effort. Against a warm timber they need something to mediate, or the two simply sit next to each other. Pieces bought as a set have already been matched for finish and proportion, which is the hard part of grouping anything. Split them between rooms and they still read as related. Rattan is a climbing palm, steamed and bent rather than cut and joined, which is why the curves are continuous and the whole piece weighs so little. Every length differs slightly in colour, so no two pieces match exactly. Supplied as a set of 2.

Check whether it holds its shape empty. A basket that slumps when nothing is in it will look untidy most of the time, because most of the time it will be half full.

It needs nothing beyond dusting, and a damp cloth on the finish rather than anything solvent.
