Description
Our Seldon chopping board is cut from rubberwood and finished in oil. Its brown face carries a geometric band along one long edge: two rows of alternating blocks in contrasting wood tones, laid out like a chequerboard. The blocks run right through to the edge, so the pattern shows on the side of the board as well as on top. It measures 34cm wide, 22cm long and 1.5cm thick, and weighs 0.75KG. That is a useful everyday size, roomy enough for slicing a loaf or chopping vegetables for a weeknight supper, yet compact enough to lift easily and store in a cupboard.
On the worktop it is a board for daily preparation, from herbs and fruit to cheese and bread. It is equally at home on the dining table, where it works as a serving board for cheese, cured meats or a fresh loaf passed round at the start of a meal. The graphic pattern means it looks considered rather than purely practical. It suits anyone who keeps a board out on show instead of hidden away, and it makes a thoughtful housewarming gift for someone setting up a first kitchen. Laid on a rustic wooden table for a casual lunch, its brown tones sit comfortably alongside the grain.
The board is 100% rubberwood, a dense hardwood with an even grain, and its oil finish brings out the figure of the wood. It does not go in the dishwasher, the microwave or the oven, so wash it by hand and dry it straight away. Oiled wood keeps its looks longest when it is never left to soak and is stood on its edge to dry, so air reaches both faces. Between uses, lean it against the splashback with the patterned band at the foot, where it adds a graphic note to the worktop.

Frequently Asked
What is the chopping board made of?
It is made from 100% rubberwood with an oil finish. The geometric blocks run through to the edge, so the pattern shows on the side too.
Can the board go in the dishwasher?
No. It does not go in the dishwasher, so wash it by hand and dry it promptly rather than leaving it to soak in the sink.
How big is the chopping board?
It is 34cm wide, 22cm long and 1.5cm thick, and weighs 0.75KG. That is a handy size for everyday chopping and for serving at the table.
Can I use it to serve food at the table?
Yes. The maker lists it for food use, so it works as a serving board for cheese, bread and cured meats as well as for chopping.
Can it go in the oven or the microwave?
No. The maker states it is not for the oven or the microwave, so keep it for chopping and serving rather than using it as a hot surface.
