Description

Scandinavia is a pendant in opal and chrome. A stack of three opal glass plates hung under a polished chrome cone: a small flat disc at the top, a wide flared plate below it, and a deeper straight-sided drum at the bottom. The plates are held clear of each other so light escapes as bright rings between them as well as out of the open bottom. The glass is warm white and evenly diffusing, so no lamp shows through anywhere. The chrome cone flares out where the black flex enters and is the only metal on the fitting. The widest plate reads as a shallow brim over the drum below it. It measures 40cm across.

Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.

The holder is E27. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

An E27 lamp. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the shade. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
