Description

The Sangamo Choice Plus is a wireless programmable thermostat system with a wall-mounted control unit and a separate 16A receiver that mounts near the boiler. The thermostat communicates with the receiver over 868MHz radio at up to 30m indoors, removing the need for cable runs between the room thermostat and the heating system. The unit offers both 7-day and 24-hour programming modes, with up to 6 time/temperature events per day.

Designed for central heating control in domestic settings, the Choice Plus suits homes where running wiring from a central location to the boiler cupboard would be disruptive or expensive. The thermostat fits on any wall within 30m of the boiler, typically positioned in a main living area or hallway where it can sense representative room temperatures. The receiver fits near the boiler and switches the heating circuit on and off based on wireless commands from the thermostat.

The control unit uses TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) switching, which cycles the boiler on and off in short bursts rather than waiting for the room to drop below the set temperature before firing. This reduces temperature swings and fuel consumption. Optimum Start learns how long the system takes to reach target temperature and fires the boiler early on cold mornings so the room is warm by the programmed time, while Delayed Stop runs the system briefly after a heating period ends to extract residual heat from the radiators. The thermostat runs on AA batteries (supplied) and indicates low battery status before power runs out.

The blue backlit LCD shows current room temperature, target temperature, time and day. Three front buttons (minus, OK, plus) provide menu navigation and adjustment. The pre-programmed schedule is ready to use out of the box but can be adjusted to match occupancy patterns. Temporary override allows manual adjustment without losing the programmed schedule, and frost protection mode maintains a 5°C minimum temperature when the property is unoccupied in winter.

What's the wireless range between the thermostat and receiver?

The 868MHz radio link operates up to 80m in open field conditions and up to 30m indoors through typical domestic walls. Thick stone, metal stud walls or multiple floors can reduce this range, so test signal strength before final wall mounting.

Does it require mains power or batteries?

The wall thermostat runs on AA batteries (supplied) and shows a low battery warning before power runs out. The receiver requires mains 240V AC connection near the boiler and switches up to 16A.

Can I set different temperatures for different days?

Yes. The 7-day programming mode allows different schedules for each day of the week, with up to 6 time/temperature events per day. Alternatively, 24-hour mode repeats the same schedule daily.

What is TPI control and why does it matter?
