The Sangamo 71101 Suntracker is a 1-channel 7-day astro timer designed for DIN rail mounting in consumer units, distribution boards and control panels. The timer uses astronomical calculations to automatically adjust switching times based on sunrise and sunset throughout the year, removing the need to manually reprogram seasonal changes for outdoor lighting, security lighting, or building automation applications.

The 71101 provides a single 16A volt-free changeover contact (NO and NC terminals) suitable for switching resistive, inductive and capacitive loads on 230V AC circuits. The 60-memory location capacity allows complex weekly schedules to be stored, with each event programmable as either a fixed time or an offset from sunrise/sunset. The LCD display shows current time, next switching event, and operating mode, with programming accessed via four front-panel buttons (M, OK, -, +).

The timer occupies a single DIN module width (18mm), fitting alongside MCBs and RCDs in standard UK consumer units. The internal battery reserve maintains programming and timekeeping for up to 6 years during power cuts. Unlike higher models in the Sangamo range, the 71101 does not require a programming key for setup — all configuration is done via the front-panel buttons. The unit is compatible with Sangamo's optional EasyVUE wireless programming system (hub and key sold separately) for remote configuration where multiple timers are installed across a site.

What is an astro timer and how does it work?

An astro timer uses astronomical calculations to determine local sunrise and sunset times based on the date and geographic location (set during initial programming). The timer then automatically adjusts switching times throughout the year to maintain consistent offsets from sunrise or sunset, so outdoor lighting comes on at dusk and off at dawn without manual seasonal adjustment.

What does the 16A volt-free changeover contact control?

The contact can switch loads up to 16A at 230V AC. 'Volt-free' means the switching contact is electrically isolated from the timer's own power supply, allowing it to control separate circuits safely.
