Description
Our Sandrine side plate is made of stoneware and finished in a reactive glaze, which breaks into a fine speckle across a soft grey surface and gathers into a darker line around the rim. It measures 22cm across and 2cm tall, which puts it squarely in side plate territory: roomy enough for a slice of toast, a wedge of cake or a croissant, and a good step smaller than a dinner plate. The outline is round but softly uneven, and at 0.594KG it has the satisfying heft of proper stoneware.
This is the plate we reach for at breakfast and teatime: a croissant in bed, buttered toast at the kitchen table, or a slice of cake with the afternoon pot. At dinner it sits beside the main plate for bread or salad, and it makes a neat starter plate when friends visit. The grey is quiet enough for a busy family kitchen and soft enough for a wooden farmhouse table, so it suits anyone building an everyday tableware cupboard that looks good without trying too hard.
Stoneware is a dense ceramic fired at high temperature, which makes it hard-wearing for daily use. This plate goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so it can warm a pastry, carry a hot portion from oven to table and then go straight into the dishwasher. Reactive glazes move as they fire, so the speckle and depth of tone vary a little from one plate to the next, and no two are quite alike. To style it, stack a few on an open shelf where the speckled rims show, or lay each one on a larger plate with a folded linen napkin.

Frequently Asked
What is the material of the Sandrine side plate?
It is made of 100% stoneware with a reactive glaze, which gives the grey surface its fine speckle.
How big is it?
It measures 22cm across and 2cm tall, a side plate size suited to toast, cake, pastries or a small starter.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes. It goes in the dishwasher, so clearing up after breakfast or a dinner party takes no special care.
Can I use it in the microwave and the oven?
Yes. It can go in both the microwave and the oven, so it can warm a pastry or carry a hot starter to the table.
Does every plate look exactly the same?
Not quite. Reactive glazes move as they fire, so the speckle and depth of tone vary a little from one plate to the next.
How heavy is it?
It weighs 0.594KG, which gives it the solid, settled feel you expect from good stoneware at the table.
