Description
An arched wall mirror, wider than it is tall at 101 by 83cm, framed in mango wood and divided up like a window. A horizontal bar runs across the lower third, setting three rectangular panes below it. Above that bar a small semicircular arch stands at the centre, with two straight bars fanning out from where it springs to meet the rim of the main arch. The wood is pale and left in its natural tone, with the grain, the knots and a worked surface texture showing through.
At 101cm wide against 83cm tall this is a low, wide arch, and it is made for the wall above a console or a fireplace. Over a wooden console the arch clears the shelf below, and the room behind comes back through the panes. It is 3.5cm deep, so it sits close to the wall, and it weighs 10.85kg.
The frame is mango wood and the glass is mirror. Mango is a by-product of the fruit industry in India, where the trees are grown for fruit and the timber is taken once they have finished bearing. The surface is left textured rather than worked smooth, so the grain and the knots stay visible. The Sande mirror is made in this one size.
