Salle Outdoor Wall Light - Black & Smoked

The Salle is a slim outdoor wall light shaped as one upright cylinder: a black body of aluminium and plastic at the base, topped by a ribbed smoked plastic shade whose fine vertical ribs give it texture whether it is lit or not. It stands 31cm tall and 7.5cm across, and it sits 10.5cm out from the wall, so it reads as a neat column rather than a bulky lantern. It takes a standard E27 bulb, which is not included, leaving you free to pick the warmth of light that suits your entrance. With an IP54 rating it is protected against dust and splashing water, which settles the main question: it can live outdoors on a house wall in every season.

Its natural home is beside a front door, a back door or a garage, where its slim shape frames the entrance without crowding it. The black and smoked pairing sits comfortably with timber cladding, dark window frames and modern doors, and it suits a garden wall or the edge of a patio just as well, giving a welcoming glow when you come home after dark. For anyone who wants their outside wall to look considered rather than functional, it is an easy choice.

There is no switch on the light itself; it is switched at the wall, so it is controlled from a wall switch in the usual way. It runs on 220-240V mains at 50/60Hz and weighs 0.47KG. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Aluminium does not rust, which matters on an outside wall that takes the wind and rain. One practical note on the bulb: the smoked shade gives a softer, more muted glow than a clear one would, so bear that in mind when you choose your E27 bulb.
