Description

Our Salacia storage jar is made of stoneware and holds 900ml, standing 15.5cm tall and 12cm across. Its body is painted all the way round with wavy, freeform fields of colour, each one traced with a fine contrasting outline, so the multicoloured pattern reads differently from every side. A ball knob tops the lid, and on its underside a stepped rim sits inside the mouth of the jar. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, which suits a jar that will be opened and closed every day.

Because it is approved for food, it belongs on the kitchen counter as much as on a shelf. At 900ml it is a counter-top jar rather than a bulk store: right for the coffee, tea bags, sugar or biscuits you reach for every day, kept close to the kettle. It works just as well away from the kitchen, holding cotton pads on a bathroom shelf, hair ties on a dressing table or paper clips on a desk. If you enjoy colour around the home, it brings plenty in one small piece, and the lid keeps the contents out of sight.

The finish is painted by hand, and hand painting naturally leaves small variations in line and depth of colour, so expect your jar to differ slightly from the next. The composition is 99% stoneware and 1% silicone, and the jar weighs 0.98KG, so it feels solid in the hand. Cleaning is simple: it goes in the dishwasher. It is not for use in the microwave or the oven, so keep it to storage.
