These four stoneware mugs are painted by hand with a multicoloured wavy pattern that runs all the way around each one in broad, curving bands, every band edged with a fine painted line. Each mug holds 260ml and is 8cm across and 8.5cm tall, a compact, straight-sided shape finished with a chunky round ring handle and a plain glaze inside in a contrasting shade. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, and it holds heat well, which suits a mug that gets used every day.

At 260ml, each mug takes a regular coffee or a tea with room for milk, so this is an everyday size rather than an oversized one. A set of four suits a small household or a weekend breakfast with friends, and the pattern is cheerful enough to leave out on an open shelf or on a tray beside the kettle.
