Description

This is a mouthblown glass vase in yellow, built from three soft, rounded rings stacked one on another between a short straight neck and a small foot. It stands 22cm tall and measures 21.5cm across, so it is nearly as wide as it is tall, and that near-even outline gives it a plump, generous presence on a shelf or table. The glass has a glossy, softly opaque look rather than a clear one, which lets light catch the curve of each ring. At 1.75KG it is a substantial piece of glass, not a flimsy one.

Its neck is narrower than the rounded body, so it gathers stems together and lets them fan out above the rim, whether fresh flowers from the garden, a handful of dried grasses or a few leafy branches. It sits on a hall console or a bookshelf, on a deep windowsill where daylight falls on the glass, or on a sideboard or side table in a living room. Because it is broad and low rather than tall and slim, it works where a taller vase would crowd the space, such as under a wall mirror or beside a table lamp.

The vase is made of 100% glass and is mouthblown, shaped by a glassblower rather than pressed in a mould, so small differences in tone and line from one vase to the next are part of its making. The finish is smooth and glossy, and the short foot lifts the rounded body a little clear of the surface.
