Description
Safie is a small stoneware plate in blue, 15cm across and 2cm tall, with a fine, frosted speckle drifting through its glaze. The speckle gathers thickly towards one side and thins to an almost clear glaze on the other, so the face of the plate has movement rather than a flat wash of colour. The edge lifts in a soft, low curve instead of a wide flat rim, which leaves more of the surface usable and gives the plate a gentle, rounded profile from the side. At 15cm across, it is a side plate size: smaller than a dinner plate and made for the lighter things on the table.
It earns its place at breakfast and in the afternoon. Set one beside each place for toast and butter or a croissant, use it as a cake or dessert plate, or keep a few by the kettle for biscuits with a pot of tea. It works as a bread plate at a dinner party and as a small plate for olives, cheese or tapas when friends visit. Anyone who likes tableware with a little character, but not a busy pattern, will find the blue sits easily beside other glazes, plain or speckled, and it suits a relaxed kitchen as well as a dining room laid for guests.
The plate is made entirely of stoneware, a dense, hard-fired ceramic. It goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so you can warm the plates before serving a pudding or reheat a slice of tart without a second dish. It weighs 0.23KG, a comfortable weight to pass round the table or carry in a small stack. For styling, mix it with plates in soft, neighbouring tones, or stack a few on an open shelf, where the speckled glaze shows at its best between meals.

Frequently Asked
What size is the Safie plate?
It is 15cm across and 2cm tall, a side plate size suited to toast, cake, biscuits or a bread roll rather than a full main course.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes. The plate goes in the dishwasher, so it can be washed alongside the rest of your everyday plates and bowls after a meal.
Can I use it in the microwave or the oven?
Yes to both. It goes in the microwave and the oven, which is handy for warming plates before serving or reheating a small portion.
What material is it?
It is made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-fired ceramic, finished with a blue glaze carrying a fine speckle across the surface.
How heavy is the plate?
It weighs 0.23KG, so it is easy to lift and hand round the table, and a few are easy to carry together.
