Description
This natural firwood cabinet has two glazed doors and a grid of small compartments behind them, a place to keep the pieces you use and like where you can see them. It is made of 80% firwood and 20% tempered glass: the case, shelves and door frames are wood, and each door holds panes of tempered glass behind slim glazing bars. Inside, shelves and upright dividers line up with those bars, giving three rows of compartments. It measures 110cm long, 25cm wide and 76cm tall and weighs 20.18KG, so it is a substantial piece for how slim it is.
Its long, shallow shape suits a kitchen or dining room, where you want crockery, glassware and pottery close at hand and behind closed doors. The compartments keep stacks of plates, rows of cups and a jug or two apart, so every piece is easy to find and easy to see through the glass without opening anything. In a living room, study or hallway it works just as well for books, ceramics, candles and keepsakes, and the clear view in turns everyday things into a small display.
Fir is a softwood, and its knots and grain show plainly across the sides and the top, which overhangs the case a little like a shallow cornice. The two doors meet in the centre and open outwards on side hinges, each with its own curved, decorative handle. The maker lists the finish as none, and care is simple: wipe it clean with a moist cloth. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read through how it goes together before you start. Our styling tip: give each row one kind of thing, plates stacked low and cups lined up, and keep the top to a single bowl or a pair of vases so the wood and glass stay the main thing you notice.
