Description

A pillar candle in white, 13cm high and 8cm across, with a flat top and a single cotton wick set in the centre. The surface is pitted and mottled rather than smooth, with small air pockets showing through the wall and a faint line down one side where the wax met the mould. The white carries a warm cast rather than reading cold, and the pitting takes the light unevenly across the curve.

At 8cm across this is a wide candle rather than a narrow one, so it stands on its own base without needing a holder. It was made for holders proportioned to take a larger candle, and it sits as readily on a sideboard or a mantelpiece as in the middle of a table. At 13cm high it clears a low bowl or a run of foliage along a table rather than being lost behind it.

The wax is a soy blend with paraffin. It is hand poured into moulds in small batches, which is what leaves the pitted surface. The same pillar is made in a charcoal, an olive and several other colours, and in a larger size at 18cm by 10cm. A holder is not included.
