Description

A rust-coloured pillar candle, 8cm tall and 7cm across, with a single wick. The wax is a soy and paraffin blend hand poured into a mould, and the surface it comes out with is uneven: shallow pits and small ripples run round the sides, and the colour sits deeper in some places than in others rather than running flat.

At 8cm tall and 7cm across this is the smallest pillar in the range, low enough to stand inside a bowl or a shallow holder with the flame near the rim, and steady enough on its own on a side table or a windowsill. Three or four set at intervals down a table sit below the sight line across it. It drips as it burns, so it needs a holder or a dish under it rather than a bare surface.

The wax is soy and paraffin. Each candle is poured by hand into a mould in small batches, which is where the uneven surface comes from. The same mini pillar is made in olive, charcoal, white, dark cherry and sage green, and the rust runs on through a small and a large pillar as well. The candle is sold singly and no holder comes with it.

Frequently Asked

How big is it, and how many wicks?

8cm tall, 7cm across, one wick.

How long should the first burn be?

Allow roughly one hour for each inch of diameter, so that the melt pool reaches the edge and leaves a firm outer shell. Stopping short of that is what makes a candle tunnel down the middle.

Is there a limit on how long it can burn?

Yes. No more than four hours at a time, and never out of sight or unattended.

What is the wax?

A soy and paraffin blend, hand poured in small batches in India.

How do I burn it safely?

Trim the wick to 0.6cm before lighting, which gives an even burn and less soot. Do not move it while it is lit or until the wax has hardened. Keep matches, soot and anything else out of the wax, keep it away from flammable materials, and stand it on a non-porous heat-resistant dish, as it may drip.
