Description

A pillar candle 18cm tall and 10cm across, in a soft sage green. The surface is textured rather than smooth: the wax is pitted and lightly mottled where it set in the mould, and the tone shifts a little over the face of it. A single wick runs through the centre.

At 18cm tall and 10cm across this is the largest of the Rustic pillars, and it was made for the larger candle holders in the range. It stands on a sideboard or a mantelpiece, in a living room or a hallway, or at the centre of a table.

The wax is a soy and paraffin blend, hand poured into moulds in small batches by local makers, which is what leaves the rustic surface. The Rustic pillar is made in mini, small and large, and in white, olive green, charcoal, rust, dark cherry and sage green. The candle weighs 1.2kg.

How long should I burn it the first time?

Let it burn about one hour for every inch of its diameter, so that the melt pool reaches close to the edge and leaves a firm outer shell. That is what stops it tunnelling. Do not burn it for more than four hours at a time.

It was made for the larger candle holders in the range. It can also stand on its own, on a non-porous and heat-resistant surface, because the wax may drip.

What else should I know before burning it?

Trim the wick to 0.6cm for an even burn and less soot. Always burn it within sight, do not move it while it is lit or until the wax has hardened, keep it clear of matches, soot and anything flammable, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
