Description
A hand bound journal in tanned leather, 21cm tall and 15cm wide, in the A5 size. The leather is soft enough to wrap the block of paper rather than stand square around it, so the spine edge curves and the cover swells slightly where the pages sit. A leather thong runs twice round the middle of the cover and holds it shut. Inside, the paper is a warm cream and the top edge of the block is uneven rather than trimmed straight.
At 21 by 15cm this is the larger of the two sizes, and at 1.5cm thick it is slim enough to carry in a bag. The tie holds the cover shut, so the journal lies flat on a desk or a bedside table rather than springing open. The leather reads a deep orange brown in shadow and much paler where the light catches the surface.
The cover is untreated leather, dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark, and the leather is a by-product. The pages are recycled cotton rag, which uses no wood pulp at all, so the paper is tree free. Each sheet is made by hand and dried by the sun before it is bound into the leather and hand stitched, and one maker carries a journal from start to finish as part of a cooperative of families. The surface of the leather is smooth, and its colour changes over time. The same range holds an A6 journal and a photo album in the same leather.

Frequently Asked
What size is it?
A5, which is 21cm tall by 15cm wide and 1.5cm thick.
What is the paper made from?
Recycled cotton rag. No wood pulp is used, so the paper is tree free. Each sheet is made by hand and dried by the sun.
Is the leather treated?
No. It is untreated, dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark, and it is a by-product.
How do I look after it?
Store it somewhere dry, wipe the leather regularly with a soft dry cloth, and avoid any contact with moisture or heat. The colour will change over time, and it will fade if the journal is left in direct sunlight.
Is there another size?
Yes. An A6 journal is made in the same leather, and so is a photo album.
