Description

The Ruaka is a round vanity tray, 25cm across and 5.5cm tall, built as a mirrored base inside a low gallery of upright glass panes. Every pane is held in a brass frame, and the brass runs round the rim and the foot as well. The glass carries an antique mercury finish, so the surface is mottled and cloudy rather than clear, and the mottling falls differently on every pane.

At 25cm across it takes a row of perfume bottles, or rings and earrings loose in the base. The 5.5cm gallery stands tall enough to stop small things rolling off the edge and low enough to reach into. A dressing table suits it, and so does a bathroom shelf.

The tray is glass in a brass frame and weighs 0.83kg. The base is a single mirrored panel and the gallery around it is made up of separate panes. The mercury finish is worked by hand, so the depth and the pattern of the mottling vary from tray to tray and no two come out the same.
