Royer 1 Light Glass Pendant - Matte Black with Rope Trim

The Royer is a 302mm glass pendant light built around a clear glass globe with a rippled surface texture, wrapped at the neck with natural jute rope and suspended from a matte black canopy on a fabric-covered cable. The glass globe houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately), and the rippled texture in the glass softens the light output while keeping the bulb visible as a decorative element.

Designed for kitchen islands, dining tables and hallway positions where a single compact pendant provides task and ambient light, the Royer suits ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. The adjustable drop allows the pendant to be set between 492mm and 1407mm from the ceiling, giving flexibility to position the glass globe at the appropriate height above a worktop or table. The 302mm diameter keeps the pendant proportional to island widths of 900-1200mm when used as a single fitting, or allows multiple Royers to be hung in a row over longer islands without crowding.

The natural rope wrapping at the neck of the glass adds tactile detail and contrasts with the smoothness of the glass and the matt finish on the black metalwork. The rope is wound tightly and secured at both ends, forming a 50mm band that defines the transition between the canopy and the glass. The matte black finish on the canopy and cable sleeve absorbs light rather than reflecting it, keeping visual focus on the glass globe and the bulb inside. The rippled glass pattern creates a soft halo effect when lit, diffusing the light without blocking it entirely.

What bulb does it take?

The Royer takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2700K for a visible decorative element inside the rippled glass.

Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The cable length is adjustable during installation, allowing the pendant to be set anywhere between 492mm and 1407mm from the ceiling. Once set, the height remains fixed unless the canopy is reopened and the cable is re-adjusted.

How is the rope trim maintained?

The natural jute rope is wrapped tightly around the neck of the glass. It does not require regular maintenance but can be dusted gently with a soft brush. Avoid getting the rope wet, as natural fibres can discolour or lose tension when soaked.

Can multiple Royers be hung in a row?

Yes. The 302mm diameter allows multiple Royer pendants to be spaced 400-500mm apart over a kitchen island or dining table without visual crowding. For a staggered effect, vary the drop heights slightly between adjacent pendants.
